Overview

Cecil County, MD, adopted the 2012 IBC and IRC. Cecil County, MD, Municipal Code § 157 (adopted), § 157-2 (amended). Additionally, "amendments incorporated into subsequent IBCs and IRCs are adopted prospectively;" therefore, it is reasonable to assume Cecil County has now adopted the 2015 IBC and IRC. Cecil County, MD, Municipal Code § 157-3.

Existing Buildings

Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.

Cecil County, MD, did NOT adopt Appendix J as part of the code. Cecil County, MD, County Code § 157-2. Appendix J provides guidance on existing buildings.

Detached one- and two-family dwellings and multiple single-family dwellings (townhouses) not more than three stories above grade plane in height with a separate means of egress and their accessory structures shall comply with the IRC.
