Overview

Cecil County, MD, adopted the 2012 IBC and IRC. Cecil County, MD, Municipal Code § 157 (adopted), § 157-2 (amended). Additionally, "amendments incorporated into subsequent IBCs and IRCs are adopted prospectively;" therefore, it is reasonable to assume Cecil County has now adopted the 2015 IBC and IRC. Cecil County, MD, Municipal Code § 157-3

Cecil County, MD, adopted the 2012 IBC and IRC. Existing Buildings

Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.

Cecil County, MD, did NOT adopt Appendix J as part of the code. Cecil County, MD, County Code § 157-2. Appendix J provides guidance on existing buildings.

Detached one- and two-family dwellings and multiple single-family dwellings (townhouses) not more than three stories above grade plane in height with a separate means of egress and their accessory structures shall comply with the IRC.

Commercial Building Code
